Solar Rebate Program

Chicopee Electric Light is now offering rebates to residential customers that install solar photovoltaic systems. Customers interested in harnessing energy from the sun can get a rebate of $2.50 per watt for a maximum of $5,000 per installation. Incentives are limited to the first 15,000 watts per year. CEL is offering these rebates to support the use of renewable energy. Customers will be required to have an automatic transfer switch that disconnects from the grid if power is lost to protect its workers from electrocution. Customers may also be able to take advantage of federal and state tax incentives for the installation of these systems.

Because solar energy is a renewable energy source, it creates renewable energy credits that can be marketed to customers who want to support renewable energy sources. A credit is created for each kWh of electricity produced and is sold separate from the electricity. CEL will have the option of buying these from the customer at a rate of 3 cents per kWh.
